is not such a good giveaway hostess…

December 23rd, 2010 · 8 Comments

Am I? Sorry friends. This was much easier last year, when I just picked a bunch of winners at the end…but that wasn’t as much fun…Plus now I have these nifty social media sharing type buttons and that’s fun to watch too, I think.

I’ll try to make it up to you all…tomorrow I’ll draw the winner for this NEW prize…

woolpets hedgehog kit

A super fun needle felting kit from Woolpets! Needle felting is so fun and easy, you’ll probably be hooked right away! I can’t wait until I feel the girls are responsible enough to use the barbed needles…it’s as easy as clay and the creations last far longer. All you need (except a foam pad-available at most craft stores or etsy) is included in the kit, which is rated as “easy”. I did the first one while watching TV, then proceeded to make a whole family that you can see HERE in my felt gallery…

Remember…the rules…To enter the giveaway…

#1-You MUST comment HERE on the blog each day you want to win the highlighted prize. Please post on the BLOG, not on the “notes” that shows up on my facebook link.
#1a-Post with a link to your blog mentioning my contest, FB share, tweet or other way of sharing and I will give extra entries (1 extra entry for each method)
#2-You MUST be a fan of one, two, or ALL three facebook fan pages I am part of.

    Fabrichound.com fan page on Facebook
Sweet Girl Boutique fan page on Facebook
Adaigo Bleu Studios Etsy Team fan page on Facebook

That’s actually not too hard…and you can share this SO easy with your FB friends now that I have that spiffy little button down there…if you hover, it will give you the option of sharing with a comment, easy peasy!

And the WINNER of the “White Christmas” felt tree I started this project with is…
#10-Caroline of Pink Lemonade Bags! Who I also just read (on her blog) is a Tastefull Simple rep! woohoo!!! Guess who I will be calling for some yummy treats?!?! This is going to look so sweet on that fabulous hutch she has…
It’s so much easier for me to give you a prize too, if you leave a link to your blog or some other way to contact you, like Caroline did, plus I can give you a fun shout out :)
Now, get to sharing this fun prize and I’ll see you back here tomorrow, I promise!

Crafty Kids Gift Guide 2010 Edition

December 10th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Oh yes, it’s time for the gift guides! I probably should start putting these up in November next year, but better late than never, right? Isn’t that WHY FedEx is so big? lololol!
The 2010 Fabrichound Crafty Kids Gift Guide…If you are a sewing, crafting momma or granny, you probably have some kids hanging about that also enjoy sewing and crafts. Crafts and projects are also a great way to keep the kids occupied while you complete a project or get a few chores done. I’m always on the hunt for easy, fun crafts for my kids and I’ve gathered a few here for your shopping ease.

Brother sewing machineBrother LS2125I Easy-To-Use Lightweight Basic 10-Stitch Sewing Machine

It’s hard to top the cuteness of some of the “kids” machines on the market, so go function over form if you are serious about your 6 year old learning how to sew. We did get Aurora one of those cheap chainstich machines when she was about 3 and that was ok for about, oh 3 things, until she realized how easily the stitching pulled out. There are also lots of small machines labeled as “travel” or “portable” in the $20-$30 range, but I can’t really recommend those. If price is a big consideration, check thrift stores, pawn shops and even sewing machine dealers for samples or rentals they might want to sell. Basically, any machine in the $100 msrp range with a name you’ve heard of, like Singer, White or Brother is probably great for your youngster to learn on. HERE is a really good article on what features to consider when choosing.

alex kitAlex Toys My First Sewing Kit
We have other Alex kits and they are a big hit! I especially like how everything comes together in the handy suitcase. Includes cool pre-cut patterns, 8 colors of embroidery floss, shapes to make felt animals and a notebook cover, stuffing, fabric, ric rac, needles, scissors, measuring tape, straight pins, thimble, pin cushion, buttons and a pom-pom strip.

Winner of Dr Toy’s Best Classic Toys Award and Parents’ Choice Approved Award. Suggested for ages 7-12, but I let my 5 year old give it a go.

winky cherryThe Winky Cherry System of Teaching Young Children To Sew
I had to ask around for a sewing book…so far, I’ve just let Aurora sit on my lap a little, but now she is showing some interest in sewing her own projects. From my sewing friends, the Winky Cherry books come highly recommended.

“A manual that shows everything you need to do to successfully teach both hand and machine sewing to children 5-9 years old. This manual covers the psychology of teaching children, a script for teaching, and how to get a business started. Also includes marketing and promotional ideas, tips for safety, and camera-ready handouts for both students and parents.”

Winky Cherry has several titles for sewists as young as 5, including hand sewing, machine sewing, patchwork and embroidery.

melissa+doug chestDecorate Your Own Treasure Chest Kit
Let’s not leave out the boys! This pirate treasure chest kit is great for crafty lil dudes! Everything you need is included and of course, he will be so proud of his treasure keeper, he won’t want to bury it!

Melissa and Doug produce high quality, durable toys. This kit makes a great stocking stuffer and the price is right!

melissa+doug piggybankDecorate Your Own Heart Box Kit
Another great kit from Melissa and Doug! This decorate your own heart box makes a great gift, stocking stuffer or party favor. Let the kids express themselves with a place to keep their treasures. Everything you need is included in the kit, so it’s ready to go without having to search for paints, etc.

Manufacturer recommends for 8+, but I let my 5 year old do this with minimum supervision and an apron.

November 24th, 2010 · No Comments

Yay!!! I have to be totally honest…I LOVE BLACK FRIDAY!!! I know, most people think this is just crazy talk, but waking up at 3 or 4am isn’t too crazy for me, especially if I fall asleep at 7pm after a big turkey dinner, lol! It’s the one day of the year I feel like I can go out, get great deals and get back home to decorate the house while it’s still early. In fact, I like early so much, I’m going to start my Black Friday sale on THURSDAY! So, while you’re waiting for that juicy bird to finish (gosh I hate waiting and waiting to eat like that, lol!), spend some time getting the supplies for your holiday projects early.

40% off MOST everything in the store (downloads, gift certificates, CLEARANCE not included)…code will be displayed in the item listing if the item is on sale…

ALSO…orders of $100+ will receive a 10% off coupon to use later (may be stacked on other sales)

GIFT CERTIFICATE SPECIAL-get a 10% gift certificate for yourself…buy $50 GC, get $5 for you, $100 GC = $10 for you.

Orders will start to ship as early as Saturday, processing time will be dependent on sales volume and can take longer when I have a sale of this type. Thank you for your understanding.
