Sublimely Santorini

January 27th, 2010 · 10 Comments

So…let’s talk about one of my FAVORITE EVER collections…Santorini has been in the shop for a while, moving some, but not as much as I thought it would right away, considering its 3 season appeal. Maybe it’s not speaking to you the way it does to me…then again, it could be that the yellow colorway is just such a perfect match for MY living room. This is Chops chair that he sits in at night to read and stuff. It’s sort of khaki colored and after a while, I noticed a spot where the man’s head rests. Must be those dirty ships he works on. Anyway, after it really started to bother me, I realized I could make a fab little cover from some charm squares, fat quarter and half yard…and of course, a matching pillow to spruce up the whole corner, right?

I didn’t make a tutorial or anything, I’m sure most of you can figure this out. If you need specific instructions, you could email me, I guess. I just used a half yard cut for the back side (that you’re not seeing right now). For the front, half of the cover is a fat quarter and the other half is charm squares pieced together. I bound the edge with twill tape from my shop, though you could use bias tape as well.
Also, Lila put these darling MUSHROOMS on her blog…That’s two super cute ways to use some Santorini fabrics…How about you tell me what you would do with them and I’ll send you a little bit? Check out the fabrics HERE and leave a comment with your ideas. If I like yours the best, I’ll rush you a little Santorini prize pack.

I almost forgot…the WINNER of the Flora and Fauna goodies is janis stob who said “absolutely the hummingbirds! great for a collar on my favorite swing coat!” I love the idea of taking something you already have and jazzing it up with a little color! Please email me your address so I can get this out.

Well, it just so happens that I made a little wristlet with some Santorini just the other day. I would make more of them if I won the fabric! I love this line too — the designs and colors. It speaks to my heart!

I’m ready for summer…I would make some summer skirts with these, one for me, and one for a special little girl :)

These fabrics are so calm and earthy, they are whispering to me… perhaps a yoga mat and a cute little drawstring bag to haul it around in.

I don’t know exactly what I would do with any of those gorgeous fabrics. Camera strap, new purse (since my current one has definitely seen better days), floor pillows for my daughter’s class along with some bibs and maybe even a Easter jumper with those lovely springy colored ones. :)

Everyone I know is having babies: baby GIRLS!! And I’ve got a bunch of OBV on it’s way to my happy craft room so I’d *have* to say that Santorini would end up mixed into softies with matching appliqued onesies, burpies and bibs. :)

I would LOVE to make some springy skirts and dresses with those beautiful pastel prints!

I love the colors - they would match my sewing room. BUT - I love the ones that look like olives. I’d make up a kitchen set - edge a towel with one. Make coasters and matching placemats and matching napkins (sort of mix and match - all olives but all of the colors - I’m goofy like that). And perhaps and apron with the pockets of olives. OOOHHH - have a martini party! I’ve got big dreams for those fabrics.

Oh I fell in love with this line when it first came out. Love the colors. I’d like to try something I just saw at my LQS, Locker Hooking, to make a rug for in front of my kitchen sink. The sample showed a nice thick rug, only problem is it takes lots of fabric.

You know, being selfish here, I LOVE those colors. They would look good on me. I never look at something and think of making for myself. I always have ideas for making things for my kids or gifts.
But I looked at those fabrics and thought they would look great as trim on an old favorite brow corduroy jean style jacket and then a matching new patchwork skirt. O how fun that would be!
And, maybe a little fun purse to match….. oh my!
