This Girl Scout Gig

or “I can’t believe I’m having THIS MUCH FUN!!!”
For those who didn’t already know, I am now the John Muir School Girl Scout Troop (Group) 3904 Leader. I know…me…a leader…of girls. You can stop laughing now. I’m super lucky to have an amazing co-leader and supportive parents and grandparents who are also excited that Girl Scouts have come to their girls. If you had told me a few years ago, even after I had my own daughters, that I would be leading the troop, I’d have laughed. Helper, sure, but leader, uh…..but someone needed to do it and I really want Aurora to have the chance to have the same kind of fun I had as a Girl Scout. So, here I am, with CLM (that’s co-leader M) and 23 girls kindergarden to 4th grade girls. It’s becoming sort of a joke at the Service Unit meeting (with the other leaders) that I should share the wealth, lol! And cross your fingers that I can get another Kindergarden mom next year to take over with the new girls we are sure to get.

Girl Scouts,cookies

One of my girls gave me this picture yesterday…that’s after we sell cookies, me handing out recognitions at a meeting. I need a tissue again…isn’t that the cutest thing ever?!?!?!
So today finds me buried in handbooks and badgebooks, training registrations and calendars, with cookies and daisy petals whirling about! I need to consider Cookie Training for adults and girls, Thinking Day, Encampment, service projects, swaps and how I’m going to transport 20+ sets of art supplies into my meetings…
I have a lot to do today…
But I’d say it’s worth it :)

You are the bravest woman I know! My only Girl Scout involvement is buying and eating the cookies. It sounds like you are in for an adventure!

I was trying to start another troop this fall so Aurora could do it (they limit the troop size to about 8 girls and there were already 2 full troops) but I needed a co-leader and no one would step up. I think it would be fun(ish) but I have heard all the rules and regulation can be a pain. Anyway, I’m waiting until fall again and I’ll try to get something together…
