Aurora is on break from school. Luckily she is enjoying mellow, indoor activities lately. Today we met up with Lisa and Megan to see The Princess and the Frog, from Disney (rated G).
We both enjoyed the movie…I especially liked the music…the zydeco in particular had both me and Megan bopping in our seats. In case you aren’t familiar, the movie is a twist on the usual fairy tale and takes place in Jazz soaked 1920’s New Orleans. Be aware, there is a voodoo aspect on both the bad and good sides. Aurora (6 and loves Harry Potter) wasn’t scared at all, but a few younger members of the audience were frightened by the shadowy spirits. I wouldn’t take Ziva (3 and a scaredy cat). It was visually fantastic, the Disney animators have outdone themselves on this one and many scenes were so full of light and color, in contrast to the purple shadows of the “bad guy”.
Aurora and I give this movie two thumbs up and say it’s a great way to spend a few hours with your 5-10 year old over the holiday break.

Good to know! This may just be the answer for what to do on Christmas Eve to spend a couple hours out of the storm.
Thanks for the review Lady M!

I took my almost 5yo and her just turned 4yo friend and they both LOVED it. The music was my favorite part, too.

Well, thanks for the review -I know not to take my grandkids to see it as they are the scaredy type! Disney films used to be more consistent about being fun movies to take little kids to see!

My 4-yr-old and 2-yr-old actually both seemed to enjoy it! I was a bit worried about the scary parts (because with Disney there are *always* scary parts — have to disagree a bit with DianeY), but the girls haven’t mentioned those at all. Thank goodness!
And I’ll definitely put my name in the hat for your 12 days — thanks for the giveaway!

I miss Disney’s hand-drawn animation. I mean, I love the computer animation such as Monster, Inc. and Toy Story, but I miss the hand-drawn fairytale like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Can’t wait to see this one.
Have a great holiday and safe new year!

Thanks for the review! My dds scare fairly easily so we’ll skip this one. Dd1 did tell me that this princess is the prettiest, lol.

Agreed on the Voodoo. They took that too far for my taste, but I LOVED the rest of the movie! Cajun fireflies, haha
