I’m so pleased to bring you the first annual Fabrichound Crafty Kids Gift Guide! If you are a sewing, crafting momma or granny, you probably have some kids hanging about that also enjoy sewing and crafts. Crafts and projects are also a great way to keep the kids occupied while you complete a project or get a few chores done. I’m always on the hunt for easy, fun crafts for my kids and I’ve gathered a few here for your shopping ease.
Sewing Pretty with Hello Kitty REAL Sewing Machine by Janome
This adorable AND functional machine is getting great reviews everywhere I look. Sure, it’s cute, but I’m hearing that it’s lightweight and easy to use as well. A great way to introduce youngsters to machine sewing without being intimidated by mom’s BIG machine.
550 stitches per minute, 17 stitch functions, 4 step buttonhole, darning plate for freehand embroidery. Weighs 18 pounds.
Alex Toys My First Sewing Kit
We have other Alex kits and they are a big hit! I especially like how everything comes together in the handy suitcase. Includes cool pre-cut patterns, 8 colors of embroidery floss, shapes to make felt animals and a notebook cover, stuffing, fabric, ric rac, needles, scissors, measuring tape, straight pins, thimble, pin cushion, buttons and a pom-pom strip.
Winner of Dr Toy’s Best Classic Toys Award and Parents’ Choice Approved Award. Suggested for ages 7-12, but I would let my 5 year old give it a go.
The Winky Cherry System of Teaching Young Children To Sew
I had to ask around for a sewing book…so far, I’ve just let Aurora sit on my lap a little, but now she is showing some interest in sewing her own projects. From my sewing friends, the Winky Cherry books come highly recommended.
“A manual that shows everything you need to do to successfully teach both hand and machine sewing to children 5-9 years old. This manual covers the psychology of teaching children, a script for teaching, and how to get a business started. Also includes marketing and promotional ideas, tips for safety, and camera-ready handouts for both students and parents.”
Winky Cherry has several titles for sewists as young as 5, including hand sewing, machine sewing, patchwork and embroidery.
Decorate Your Own Treasure Chest Kit
Let’s not leave out the boys! This pirate treasure chest kit is great for crafty lil dudes! Everything you need is included and of course, he will be so proud of his treasure keeper, he won’t want to bury it!
Melissa and Doug produce high quality, durable toys. This kit makes a great stocking stuffer and the price is right!
Decorate Your Own Piggy Bank Kit
Another great kit from Melissa and Doug! This decorate your own piggy bank makes a great gift, stocking stuffer or party favor. Let the kids express themselves with a place to keep their pocket change. Everything you need is included in the kit, so it’s ready to go without having to search for paints, etc.
Manufacturer recommends for 8+, but I would let my 5 year old do this with minimum supervision and an apron.
